Cortland Regional Medical Center Hospitalists
Facilitating Your Care From Beginning to End
Hospital stays – whether scheduled or an emergency, can be a stressful
time. Having a healthcare team focused on your care and recovery can help
ease some of the uncertainty and anxiety. During your stay at Cortland
Regional, you will be examined and treated by a variety of healthcare
professionals. One doctor you will see regularly is known as a hospitalist.
These Internal medicine physicians have the education, clinical training,
and critical care experience to care for you in the hospital setting.
They are onsite and available, 24 hours a day, seven days a week 365 days a year.
Consider your hospitalist your healthcare team “captain.” In
collaboration with the other departments and specialties, they will order
the necessary tests, create your plan of treatment, and remain in constant
contact with your primary care physician.
Your hospitalist is on-site at all times so they can respond immediately
to test results and changes in your condition which means better treatment
and less time spent in the hospital. Throughout your stay, the hospitalist
informs your primary care physician of your progress and treatment. Our
hospitalists are here to work with,
not replace, your primary care physician.
Once you are approved for discharge, your hospitalist will release you
back into the care of your primary care physician, along with your recent
medical records and other important information. If you do not have a
primary care physician, our hospitalist team will help to ensure that
you have a referral for your continued care once you return home.
