The Administration of Cortland Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is pleased
to welcome Laura Stender as the medical center's new Technical Director
for Laboratory Services. Laura is responsible for the overall operation
of the departme nt, including planning, policy setting, quality improvement,
staffing, and directing activities of the laboratory, anatomic pathology,
and transfusion services. In addition to the laboratory on the medical
center campus, CRMC operates community laboratory centers at 6 Euclid
Avenue and 1104 Commons Avenue in Cortland.
Laura brings over 30 years of clini cal laboratory experience to her new
role. Prior to joining CRMC, she worked at Ad irondack Health in Lake
Placid. Laura began her career at Adirond ack as a generalist, before
moving into a supervisor position. During this time she developed a strong
working relationship with the nursing staff, involving point of care trai
ning and competency activities.
Laura began her medical training at Seaway Area Technology Center (Norwood,
NY) where she was certified as a licensed practical nurse. She continued
her education first at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake
,graduating with an associate degree in Medical Technology, and then SUNY-Canton
where Laura earned her ba chelor of technology degree in Health Care Administration.
In 2011 she grad uated from Utica College with a masters of science degree
in Health Care Administration.
Born and raised in Norfolk, NY, Laura now lives in Homer with her husband
Michael, a stone mason. They have four children: Kurt, Rachel, Andrea, and Erik.
