A Clear Picture of Health

Medical Imaging: Vital in Patient Diagnosis and Treatment
The Imaging staff combines experience and technical skills with state-of-the-art technology. Technology is constantly evolving and the equipment at CRMC is not
just on par with, but is often more advanced than that found at other larger medical facilities in Central New York. Our certified medical professionals make every
effort to ensure that during each exam the patient is as comfortable as possible, and understands every step of the process.

Digital X-rays (Radiology)
X-ray technology is an excellent imaging tool used to view the skeletal system, digestive and urinary tracts for disease or poor function. CRMC recently began using a second digital X-ray machine to complement the one already in use in the Emergency Room. When the X-ray machine was first installed in the ER, CRMC was one of only a few hospitals in the country to offer the new digital technology.

Digital Mammography
When the state-of-the-art digital mammography system was introduced at CRMC, it was the first of its kind in Cortland County. Women undergoing mammograms
now benefit from a more comfortable, quicker and easier procedure. In just a few seconds a high-resolution, clear image of the breast is obtained using a lower x-ray dosage.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
The MRI procedure is a safe (no radiation is emitted), painless process involving magnetic and radio waves to create an exceptionally detailed image. Sports-related injuries, degenerative diseases, and inner ear problems frequently require an MRI to aid in diagnosis.

CT Scans
CT scans utilize high-powered X-ray technology to obtain a three-dimensional image of the body. CT machines at CRMC utilize multiple slice imagery, meaning sections of the body can be narrowed down for more detailed views.

Nuclear Medicine
This painless and comfortable procedure involves the administration of a radioactive substance to image the body’s anatomy and organ function. Images obtained from the three state-of-the-art nuclear medicine cameras at CRMC assist the physician in diagnosing kidney, heart, and lung function, as well as evaluating the skeletal system for fractures, tumors, or infection.

Bone Density Scans
Bone density scans are used to measure the amount or density of bone in a particular part of the body, such as the hip, lower spine, forearm, or heel. This procedure can determine low bone density, which is often indicative of
osteoporosis.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound technology is most often employed in OB/GYN procedures but is also ideal for examining the blood flow of the upper and lower extremities. Ultrasounds can also produce images of internal organs, as well as muscles and tendons. With no radiation involved, this procedure is painless and fast.

Echocardiography
A form of ultrasound technology, echocardiology can ascertain how the heart is functioning by obtaining images of the heart valves, walls, and chamber size.
Echocardiography is vital in diagnosing murmurs, abnormal wall motion, and determination of damage that has occurred after a heart attack. Echocardiography
performed during exercise gives physicians information regarding a person’s risk for a cardiac event.

Special Procedures
Our interventional radiologists perform a variety of special procedures such as renal stenting, vascular stenting, and the stenting of other arteries throughout
the body.

Digital Storage of Every Image
After patient images are obtained, they are stored digitally in a secure database. Patients benefit from:
ᅠ Quick and accurate image transferbetween departments at CRMC

ᅠ Digital archiving; prior patient-images can be accessed instantly

ᅠ Peace-of-mind knowing their images will not be lost or misplaced
