In the Surgical Services Department, and throughout Cortland Regional Medical Center, we focus on delivering high-quality healthcare. Patients undergo surgery at CRMC for a variety of reasons: To diagnose, treat or prevent illness or injury. In any surgical procedure performed at CRMC, patients benefit from the following:
 
Attentive Patient Care from Preadmission to Discharge
Prior to surgery at CRMC, patients undergo a preadmission process near where they will actually have surgery. Patients meet with medical staff face-to-face and get comfortable with the surroundings. After surgery, patient status is closely monitored in preparation for discharge or admittance.
 
Access to Expert Medical Professionals and the Latest Surgical Advancements
CRMC’s Surgical Services Department proactively seeks out advancements in surgery. For example, many procedures at CRMC are now available laparoscopically (performed utilizing lasers). CRMC medical staff constantly undergoes extensive training in the latest surgical technology and procedures.
 
A Patient’s Loved Ones are a Top Priority
CRMC understands how a patient’s family and friends can be apprehensive as their loved one undergoes surgery. For each surgical case, CRMC assigns a volunteer to keep the patient’s loved ones informed of the patient’s status.
 
Specializing in Numerous Surgical Procedures
At CRMC, you’ll find many of the same procedures and equipment you’d find at a major hospital. The following surgeries are available at CRMC:
 
General Surgery
General Surgery at CRMC refers to elective surgeries such as gull bladder removal, hernia repairs, biopsy procedures, pacemaker operations, cancer treatment (tumor removal).
 
Orthopedic Surgery
Orthopedic surgeries involve the musculoskeletal system which most notably includes joints and tendons. Sports-related injuries may require orthopedic surgeries such as ACL repair, joint replacements of the hip, knee, shoulder or treatment of carpel tunnel syndrome or tennis elbow. Arthritic conditions may also require orthopedic surgery.
 
 
ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Surgery
For patients requiring surgical attention to the ear, nose or throat, a full range of procedures are available at CRMC including: tonsillectomies, ear tube operations, thyroid treatments, septoplasty (corrective surgery), and more.
 
Urology
Many urologic procedures are performed using laparoscopic (laser) techniques. Other urologic surgery advancements involve a Cryo (or freezing) process. Common urology surgeries performed at CRMC are prostate, bladder, and kidney surgeries.
 
OB-GYN (Obstetrics)
The OB-GYN category of surgical procedures at CRMC involves women’s reproductive health. C Sections, hysteroscopy, and post-menopausal treatments are available at CRMC.
 
E-Sure
This state-of-the-art surgery available at CRMC is a female sterilization
procedure where implants instead of cauterization or other methods are used.
 
Ophthalmology
The most common ophthalmology surgical procedure performed at CRMC is the treatment of patients suffering from cataracts.
 
Pain Management
For patients experiencing pain, this division of CRMC’s Surgical Services Department aids in pain management. Epidural and trigger point injections in the lumbar region fall under Pain Management at CRMC.
 
Outpatient Medical Procedures
Some surgical procedures are done on an outpatient basis at CRMC. Blood transfusions, medication infusions (such as antibiotics), and phlebotomies are performed daily at CRMC.
 
Endoscopy
Endoscopical surgical procedures involve viewing organs inside the body in a minimally invasive manner. Colonoscopy, gastrocopy, and esophagopy all fall under this category. Endoscopy also aids other procedures such as removing gull stones or other blockages.
