Polly Cator, M.D., has been named Cortland Regional Medical Practice’s Chief Medical Officer, effective Monday, May 1, 2017. Dr. Cator will serve as the liaison between the medical practice and the hospital administration, bringing over 23 years of clinical, leadership and teaching experience to her new role.

Dr. Cator has worked for the Cortland Regional Medical Practice (CRMP) since 2012 as a staff physiatrist. She has served as the hospital’s Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services since 1998 and as the attending physiatrist for the Cortland Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since 2002. She is also a member of both the Medical Executive and Physician Health committees.

“Since she joined Cortland Regional, Dr. Cator has proven herself to be a leader when helping to resolve the many complex issues challenging healthcare organizations,” said Tracy Gates, Cortland Regional’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, “Serving on multiple committees as well as initiating new programs, such as her most recent project, Joint Camp Forum, which educates patients on what to expect with joint replacement, Dr. Cator is an advocate for both her profession and her patients. She has proven her ability to lead and collaborate – all attributes that make her ideal for this role.”

Dr. Cator received her B.A. from SUNY – Binghamton, her M.S. from Columbia University and her medical degree from the University of Rochester. She has practiced in diverse settings - from inpatient and residential care to academic – working with patients of all ages with varying levels of rehabilitative needs.  Since 1998, she has lived and practiced in the Cortland community either working for or collaborating with many of the hospital’s community partners. In addition to her role as staff physiatrist for CRMP, she has been a medical consultant to Belvedere of Syracuse since 2010.

CRMP has experienced tremendous growth over the past three years, not only continuing to expand both its specialty practices and primary care, but recruiting and retaining exceptional medical talent. The value and need for this leadership role came at a pivotal moment for the practice and Cortland Regional.

Playing a role in the practice’s continued growth excites Dr. Cator, “Cortland Regional Medical Practice is at a challenging and exciting phase of its development in becoming the area’s premier healthcare provider group. I am thrilled to be able to help lead our team into the future.”

In March, Dr. Russell Firman was named as Cortland Regional’s new Chief Medical Officer.
