Cortland Regional Medical Center ranked #1 in New York State by Medicare

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its annual assessment of all US hospitals based on four important aspects of care and ranked Cortland Regional Medical Center first in New York State.  CMS evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and patient safety outcomes, patient satisfaction, clinical processes of care, and overall efficiency, as measured by Medicare spending per beneficiary.

In his November newsletter to employees, members of the Board of Trustees, and the CRMC Medical Staff, Medical Center President Mark Webster shared, “We are #1!  This should make us all feel incredibly proud and pleased to be part of a winning team.”

New York State is noted for having some very good and renowned hospitals, both in New York City and Upstate, so we are humbled and honored that among all these hospitals, CMS has ranked us as the best performing.

“We should feel very satisfied with this awesome achievement and extremely proud of CRMC,” Webster conveyed to his team.  “But more importantly, we can carry that pride to our patients’ bedsides as we care for them with confidence, sharing the true story of an organization that has served the greater Cortland community for nearly 125 years.”

The accomplishments that led to CRMC being ranked first in New York State can be attributed to the Medical Center’s multi-year commitment to creating a culture of patient safety.  The scores prove that Cortland Regional Medical Center is a high-quality, low-cost provider.  CRMC’s performance dispels the healthcare myth that bigger is better.
