On Saturday, February 15th, runners from throughout the region and out
of state made their way to Cortland Regional Medical Center to participate
in the Feel the Love 5K and 3K walk. This is the 2nd annual race sponsored by the hospital.
“It started as an idea from our CRMC wellness team,” shared
Jarrod Kolodziejczk, Director of Volunteer Services at the health center.
“We thought it would be great to tie into the Valentine’s
Day theme and remind our community about our commitment to compassionate
care.” Offered Kolodziejczk.
The wellness team is made up of 24 staff representing several departments
and disciples across CRMC. Their focus is to promote good health amongst
hospital staff and in the community. This year’s event attracted
over 130 people from Tompkins, Broome, Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego
counties. One family made the trip from Pennsylvania.
The first place runner was Michael Dee from East Syracuse with a time of
18:06. Scott Hornung from Bainbridge came in 2nd while Michael Leonard
of Freeville came in third. Trish Horan from Binghamton was the first
place female runner at 20:16. Mark Webster, President and CEO of Cortland
Regional Medical Center also participated in the race and awarded runners
with medals for each category at the conclusion of the race. The runners
that braved the winter weather were welcomed back from the race by warm
soup and hot chocolate.
Based on the success of this event and the CRMC Hospital Aid Trick or Trot
in October, the wellness team is already planning a 15K race for Memorial
Day weekend. This is will be one of very few long distance races in Central
New York with more details coming at a later date.
