Kelly Tanner, RN
“I was first attracted to Cortland Regional because of the great
benefits, but it’s the great people here that have made this my home.
I love working here. I enjoy the people that I work with and it’s
a very positive work atmosphere. Everyone is very supportive, which is
really great as a young nurse. You hear a lot of “You’re doing
a great job.” and “Thank you.” I’m not sure I
would hear that all the time at a big hospital.
I first started working at Cortland Regional because my sister worked here
and told me it was a great place to work and there were excellent benefits.
So, I applied and started working here too. Later, I learned of the generous
educational benefits offered by Cortland Regional and that inspired me
to go back to school to become a nurse. You could definitely say that
Cortland Regional played a big role in choosing my career path.
I like the diversity of professional opportunities you can have here at
Cortland Regional. For a smaller hospital, there are a lot of avenues
available for trying new things and building your nursing skills. As an
example, I started my career as a nurse in the psychiatric unit and I’ve
since moved into the endoscopy unit. And I haven’t been in nursing
that long; I think it’s pretty rare at larger hospitals for young
nurses to have that type of opportunity.
When I was searching for a rewarding career path, I chose Cortland Regional."
