A hallmark of our facility is our exceptional medical staff. Eighty-five physicians, the overwhelming majority of whom are board certified, are credentialed as members of either our active or consulting staff. They provide our community with access to a diversity of medical expertise that rivals many large urban hospitals. These men and women could be practicing in communities with large metropolitan hospitals but chose to be here in Cortland, because they recognized the challenges, opportunities, and quality of life that this region has to offer.
On March 1st, 2006 Cortland Memorial Hospital officially introduced to the general public, and begin using its new name: Cortland Regional Medical Center!
Why Change to a New Name?
During recent years, CMH has constantly evolved to better serve its patients, with more and improved services, enlarged and modernize our facilities, and made key healthcare services more accessible by establishing locations outside our walls out in the community. In short, we have “outgrown” the name Cortland Memorial Hospital. After 50 years, the name does not properly reflect the progress we have made, what we have become today…and what we aspire to be in the future.
Why the name Cortland Regional Medical Center?
A research firm conducted focus groups consisting of people both within the organization and out in the community. The objectives were to gauge opinions regarding a name change, as well as opinions on a list of possible new names. In each of the groups, the name Cortland Regional Medical Center was viewed the most positively and considered an appropriate new name for the hospital.
Why is Cortland Regional Medical Center the Right Name?
“Cortland”…we are proud of our roots and our home. The Cortland community has always supported the hospital financially and with the trust it has placed in our physicians, our staff, and our services. That is a tradition we value.
“Regional”…respect for our services, physicians, and professional staff has grown in Central New York. Each year, more and more people outside the Cortland area depend on our healthcare services. We are more than a local hospital.
“Medical Center”…a strategy of continuing to broaden our scope of services and building new and improved facilities has strengthened and diversified overall healthcare options in the region.
